The Eric Nicolin Applen fund was created by our family, in memory of our son, Eric, who was diagnosed with Metastatic Osteogenic Sarcoma on June 1st, 2001, and passed away on November 12th, 2002, at the age of seventeen.
During the 18 months that Eric fought his battle with cancer, he was in the hospital on an average of 20 days out of every month. We were blessed with great friends and compassionate employers. We were fortunate to receive the gifts of monthly parking permits and gas cards to help our daily travels to the hospital, and gift cards for Eric so when he did get out of the hospital, he could go shopping for CD's, video games, or whatever would make him smile, for even the shortest of times.
After Eric passed away, we wanted to give back the same gift of a smile to other cancer children and their families struggling with the daily living expenses and loss of income. We created the Eric Nicolin Applen Fund with the contributions received from his memorial, and we made a commitment to hold an annual Golf Tournament to raise additional money for the fund.
Eric believed strongly in Faith, Hope, and Courage. It gave him strength each day to face "another" day. Eric was not alone. Every child who battles cancer is our Hero... they have shown us the true meaning of Faith, Hope, and Courage.
Courage
Doesn't always roar.
Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day
Saying
I will try again tomorrow.
